As part of yesterday's Earth Day celebration, I was invited to the Fashion Conscience shop in East Dulwich for the presentation of the new Bourgeois Boheme collection of gorgeous vegan shoes.
I'm sure any vegan will agree with me that the choice of amazing cruelty-free shoes has really skyrocketed over the past few years. All of a sudden, we're spoiled for choice, and some of the most innovative brands are popping up close to home, as is the case with BoBoheme, a London brand offering colourful and utterly wearable cruelty-free shoes steeped in the philosophy of Slow Fashion - these are shoes that are built to last.
Yesterday's event was a presentation of the SS15 collection - a selection of Chelsea boots in unexpected shades (I love the blue and green ones - so different from the usual black!), cut-out in-between season flats and my favourites: the creeper brogues detailed with punch-hole effects in a lotus shape (BoBoheme's signature) and featuring a woven cotton and paper inlay for maximum breathability.
Men's vegan shoes are usually a tricky area - but not with BoBoheme. Sleek and stylish but durable and resistant at the same time, the men's collection gives the boys more than a few styles to choose from.
One of my favourite details of the collection is the one of the Eloise ballerina (below) with the badger pattern - each sale of this whimsical shoe raises funds for Team Badger, a UK wildlife organisation which aims to stop the badger cull.
The Fashion Conscience shop appears tiny at first glance, but is actually quite large, filled with eco fashions, vegan accessories and lovely little trinkets for the home. The shop has a cosy yet stylish atmosphere, welcoming yet curated. I will definitely be back!
It was great to meet the lovely Sophie and Alicia of BoBoheme and pose as a #CertifiedBoBoista (ie wearer of their gorgeous vegan shoes!).
