Sixteen Things That I'm Darn Proud Of

(yes, I know I Tumblr'd this picture today. But I just love it. Also, if you noticed that I Tumblr'd it, that means you're one of the extremely few people who follow my Tumblr - thank you. Oh, and thank you to my favourite inspiration queens at They All Hate Us for the picture.)

1. Having the balls to move to LA, alone, from Stockholm at nineteen years old. Having the courage to recognize that this was going to be the scariest thing I'd ever done...and still doing it.

2. Going vegetarian at eleven, facing ridicule, endless questions and questionable "alternative" lunches at middle school. I knew this was right for me, and everyone else could well eat as many sausages as they wanted.

3. Snatching cigarettes from my smoker friends in high school, yelling, "they're bad for you!"

(Not So) Effortless Style: Airport Chic

As you may or may not have read in my latest post, I went to Milan this weekend. Since I have family in Stockholm and my fiancé has family in Milan, we are almost constantly travelling to visit someone (fun, sometimes. Stressful, sometimes. A prime example of me being a disaster? Always). And travelling, no matter how passionately I may love it with all my international little heart, brings out the very worst in me, style-wise.

Taking a Breather

Thank you for all the sweet comments on my latest post. They made me smile!

I hope 2013 will be a really fantastic year, but it sure isn't starting out right. So many things have already gone wrong this January - small things, bigger things, lie-awake-at-night things. Things are rocky right now - life goes up and down and now is definitely a down.

Friday David and I are going to Milan for the weekend. I don't know if I can blog from there, since my in-laws don't have much internet access. Right now I feel like I need a break from the computer - my head is pounding and my eyes even hurt at night. What I need right now is not a PC screen. It's chatting to a friend over a glass of wine, having a long lunch, watching a movie, reading a book.  I just need to zone out for a bit, for my health and well-being (hey, I didn't tell you, but I actually worked through Christmas break, so I deserve it!).
So Coffee and Heels will take a tiny break...but I'll be back soon! This weekend or next week I'll have more posts and lovely Milan pictures for you.

Until then, thank you. For reading, commenting, tweeting, e-mailing. For being the kick-ass people you are. Every time I hear from you, I'm happy. This is what having a blog is all about. So thanks.

Sunday Inspiration: 20 January

I really need some inspiration today.

Lately I've been feeling like the days are slipping away, like life isn't taking off. Days, weeks, months just keep floating by, unremarkable, unsatisfactory, bland.

"But you're in the most amazing city in the world!" you'd say. Yes, I am. But the lack of friends money and some kind of a sense of direction makes me feel like I'm not living London properly. And sometimes I find myself wondering if I wasn't better off next to my family, my friends and my old life. At least it was a life.

So yes, some inspiration would be useful right now. As would some tea. And a good book. And maybe a kitten, if I had one.

Snowy (and Broke) Weekend Movie List

It's snowing mountains here in London and forecast says it will all weekend. Now, I don't particularly trust weather forecasts, but since both David and I are flat broke (and when aren't we ever), the best options for the weekend seem to be stay in with some movies (and bake vegan cookies, but that's a different post.).

On my Movies I'm Dying to See List (and one I just saw!)

The Intouchables.

(already saw it!)

I am boycotting the Oscars this year. It is a sad, sad world where Tarantino's latest violence-fest is nominated and this beautiful French tale of male friendship is not. I first got the tip from some friends, then Jared Leto tweeted about it - that's how I knew I had to see it, so last weekend I did. You haven't yet? Check it out now!

Silver Linings Playbook.

I don't really know what this movie is about but somehow I'm sure I'll like it. I think I like Jennifer Lawrence. I haven't seen her in a movie yet, but I like the idea of her.

How To...Shop Cruelty-Free! A Beginner's Guide

I got a comment on my last post from Ashley who asked, "how do you know if products are tested on animals?" and I thought, I should do a post on that! I think a lot of people are confused about cruelty-free shopping and I'm just learning myself as well, so if there are any cruelty-free experts among my readers who catch any errors in this post, feel free to tell me!

Cruelty-Free Beauty Review: The Body Shop's Banana Conditioner

I have a terrible secret to confess: I don't always use conditioner. Some days when it's still dark outside, my alarm blares and there's barely enough time to get dressed and pour a soy latte (not to mention a healthy, nutritious breakfast) down my throat, I just lather up with shampoo. Not the best idea, I know. Nothing compares to that smooth, silky feeling you get after using a Really Good Conditioner. Like The Body Shop's Banana one.

Things I Love, Love, LOVE Books: Bossypants by Tina Fey

This is not so much a book review as it is a declaration of love.

I know I'm a hundred years late to jump on the I-love-Tina-Fey train, but I just bought a used copy of Bossypants (buying used books is super-eco, super-cheap and something we all should do) after I heard both friends and fellow writers raving about it like it was the next Nobel prize winner. I simply had to find out what this book was all about.

The book was waiting for me when I got back from Stockholm on Tuesday night and I started reading it that very same evening. And I guess that's when I fell in love.

I Want, I Want, I Want: Hunter Wellies

I never thought I'd be a wellies girl, but since I moved to London I've been dying for a pair of Hunters. My inspiration is, as often, Alexa Chung, who never fails to make casual look mind-blowingly fantastic, but also the army of London girls walking down rainy streets in them.

Me after First Day at the New Job

EXHAUSTED!

Have a lovely week everyone. I'll try to blog again as soon as I possibly can...even if there's a lot of stuff going on right now.

Home

They say home is where the heart is.

My heart lives in many places, but Stockholm is, and always will be, the home I return to.

Every time my plane lands here, I feel like I'm back home again and a familiar warmth fills my entire being as I drag my enormous suitcase through the arrivals hall at the airport. Home is something you recognise, something you know.

Sunday Inspiration - 6 January

It's the first Sunday Inspiration of 2013, yay! For this post, I searched through my trusty sources of inspiration to find something that kicks off the new year - sure, some of it is cheesy, but then again, I am cheesy and you already knew that!
At this moment, I'm at my family's house in Stockholm (it's Russian Christmas tomorrow!) and I'm heading home to London on Tuesday, ready for a new life and new adventures.

(does anyone know where I can get this t-shirt?)

2013 Style Resolutions

This seems like a perfect year for a wardrobe makeover.
I've mildly disliked my wardrobe for a long time, but never really defined what it was that I wanted to belong in there, as my twenties have been dedicated to finding myself. I don't know if it's London or just the prospect of turning 30, but lately I've had a clear picture in my head of what I want to look like. 2013 is a year for floaty dresses and biker boots, beautifully structured coats and towering heels, sparkly clutch bags and skinny faux-leather pants. It's a year of new beginnings - wardrobe included.

These Boots are Made for Walkin'

...well, maybe not so much, as the heels are, as you can see, quite skyscraper-esque. But these boots are definitely made for skinny jeans, little black dresses and weather conditions from pouring rain to spring sunshine. These boots are made for concerts or cocktails, work or play, Monday mornings or Saturday nights. And more importantly, these boots are made for compassionate living - they're leather-free, cruelty-free and on sale at Din Sko, a Swedish low-cost shoe haven.

Hello 2013

Things I look forward to in the new year:

Tea with my family.

Waking up to sunshine.

Seeing my beautiful sister as a June bride. I will cry my eyes out!

Listening to a really amazing song for the first time.

Wearing a really amazing dress for the first time.

Painting my nails every colour in the rainbow.

Reading lots and lots of books.
