End of an Era: Gossip Girl Says Goodbye

By now you probably know that I watch a few too many TV shows for my own good, but there are a few that become classics over time. Gossip Girl is a decadent guilty pleasure, like a double chocolate cake, and today it's time for the very last bite.

After six scandalous, outrageous and very stylish seasons, GG is offering up her final XOXO tonight in a dazzling double episode (my boyfriend has already been alerted that if he as much as speaks to me during this, it's off with his head) that is sure to be nothing but extraordinary. Whether you're a Blair or a Serena - I'm so a Serena - join me in a festive final-episode preparation.

Final Season Wishlist

(I'm not saying this will happen, this is just what I WISH for)

Gossip Girl's identity finally revealed!

 Blair and Chuck together.

Serena and Dan together.

Someone getting married in an outlandishly beautiful dress.

Lily and Rufus getting back together.

Jenny Humphrey and her band, The Pretty Reckless, performing.

A famous surprise guest they haven't told us about yet (and I've read pretty much every spoiler out there).

Chuck's dog in every scene (love that little cutie...obviously I mean the dog).

Six Things Gossip Girl Taught Us

No matter how bad you hurt your friends, family and really anyone in your life, you will be forgiven five minutes later....or at least by the end of the episode.

It's totally okay for best friends to sleep with each other's boyfriends. In fact, it happens all the time.

If you have nothing to do on, say, a Thursday night, there's always a "benefit" to go to. It is never addressed what said benefit is a benefit for. Are they all secret charities?

And, by the way, all teenagers love hanging out at benefits. Didn't you go to three a week when you were eighteen?

Having a job is entirely optional, but if you find you MUST have one, no degree or experience is necessary to be the editor of a newspaper, creative director of a fashion house or run a luxury hotel.

You're never too old to wear a headband.

Five Style Staples We Will Remember Forever

The totally over-the-top-fantastic wedding dresses (see Blair's wedding to Prince Louis)

The chic little winter coats (see Serena, Blair plus minions)

Lily's beautifully structured dresses - the woman must have Roland Mouret in her veins instead of (blue) blood.

Blair's headbands.

Serena's hair (okay, unattainable for most people. But what in GG world isn't?)

Five Memorable Guest Stars

Hilary Duff as Olivia.

Liz Hurley as Diana Payne.

Sebastian Stan as Carter Baizen.

Yin Chang as Nelly Yuki.

...and the wonderful Michelle Trachtenberg as Georgina Sparks, the best villain ever!

Five Most Awesomely Perfect Quotes

"Destiny is for losers. It's just a stupid excuse to wait for things to happen instead of making them happen." - Blair Waldorf

"When Prince Charming found Cinderella's slipper, they didn't accuse him of having a foot fetish" - Dan Humphrey

"We don't need tickets. I'm Chuck Bass."  - Chuck Bass, obviously

"Whoever said money doesn't buy happiness didn't know where to shop." - Blair Waldorf

"You can tell Jesus that the bitch is back." - Georgina Sparks

Four Real-Life Couples to Come Out of the Show (Yes, Really)

Blake Lively and Penn Badgley

Leighton Meester and Sebastian Stan

Chace Crawford and Taylor Momsen

Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr

The Only Two People That Never Slept Together in Six Seasons

Serena and Chuck.

..and with that, my friends, it's time to say goodbye to the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite. Because all good things come to an end!

Let me know what you thought of the final episode!

  3. I'm so sad it has come to an end. I love it, and after all these years I still keep on waiting for the next episode, although ultimately it has become more what are they gonna be wearing instead of what is gonna happen situation. I am a Serena as well :)

  4. I love this post! Haha I have to admit I'm only an occasional Gossip Girl watcher, but I prefer to wait for series to end before watching them so I can do it all in one go! I still do love me some Gossip Girl.

  5. I have to say I have never seen an episode of this. I hear you screaming from here! ;) I saw all the original trailers for it and thought oooh I'll give that a whirl and then something happened and I missed the first few episodes and never played catch up. Guess I'll have to think about watching it when it's on box set. Enjoy tonight :)

    1. The thing with Gossip Girl is, you kinda have to follow the episodes from scratch to really get into it and know what's going on. So if I were you, I'd go for the box set! Sounds like a good idea.

  6. Ah, Gossip Girl was one of my guilty tv pleasures! The plot lines are insane, the dresses beautiful, and the men gorgeous; what more could one need? I think the last episode really summed a lot of things up, although the last few seemed to try and cram so much in that I felt as though some characters got neglected. Chuck and Blair forever, though, so pleased about that one.

Really enjoying reading through your blog, by the way.
